Cost of Ownership Comparison
Shown below is a comparison of the various cost factors involved in
purchasing and operating the LaserJet IIISi and an F100. The difference
in purchase price, monthly support, and per/page operating costs are
dramatic between these two different types of printer products. The
purchase price and monthly support are 20x greater for the F100 than for
the LaserJet IIISi; however, the $/page operating costs are 5x higher
for the LaserJet IIISi.
COST FACTORS COMPARISON
LaserJet IIISi F100
-------------- ----
Duty Cycle (Pages/Month) 50,000 2,800,000
Upfront Costs ($)
Fully Configured $6,890 $197,340
Purchase Price (US list)
Periodic Costs ($/Month):
Monthly Maintenance $70 $1,400
Per Page Costs (Pennies/Page)
Click, Toner, Developer 2.33 .045
Shown below is a cost of ownership comparison of the LaserJet IIISi and
the F100. For low volume applications, the LaserJet is cheaper to
purchase and operate, while for high volume applications, the F100 has
the cost advantage. The crossover point in print volume where the F100
becomes a financially more attractive choice is at 200,000 pages/month.
COST OF OWNERSHIP COMPARISON
$/Month Pennies/Page
1000 Pg/Mo LaserJet F100 LaserJet F100
---------- -------- ---- -------- ----
50K 1,325 2.65
100K 2,649 4,805 2.65 4.81
-----> 200K 5,357 5,251 2.65 2.63
300K 8,036 5,696 2.65 1.90
400K 10,715 6,141 2.65 1.54
500K 13,394 6,586 2.65 1.32
600K 7,031 1.17
700K 7,477 1.07
800K 7,922 1.00
900K 8,367 .93
1000K 8,812 .88
Notice that due to the F100's low per page operating costs that the cost
of printing a page drops as volume is increased. In its targeted 500K
to 1M page/month design center, the cost of the F100 is around one
penny/page. On the other hand, the LaserJet IIISi for large volume
applications is a constant 2 1/2 pennies/page.
Also, the cost of ownership for LaserJets is dominated by consumables
costs. As a result, even in applications where the customer already
owns a LaserJet, it's more cost effective to upgrade to the F100 for
print volumes averaging better than 250,000 pages/month
